Game Modes

Eight Ways to Play

The formats your group already plays — now with optional automatic presses, handicaps, and scoring handled for you.

🏆
Sixes
2 vs 2 · 3 Segments · Optional Auto Press

The classic rotation game. Four players split into three 6-hole matches with different team pairings each time. The app handles optional automatic presses, trash, and running dollar totals so you can focus on golf.

  • Best ball match play, 3 × 6 holes
  • Teams rotate every 6 holes
  • Optional auto press at 2 down, 1 down on last hole
  • Birdie, Sandy & Greenie trash
  • Live $ totals per player
🤝
Four Ball
2 vs 2 · 18 Holes · Match Play

The format used in the Ryder Cup. Two teams of two, best ball on every hole across the full 18. Handicap strokes entered directly so your group plays the way you always have.

  • Full 18-hole best ball match play
  • Direct stroke-off entry per player
  • Live match status (3 Up, All Square, etc.)
  • Net score with handicap dots per hole
  • Match closed out automatically (e.g. 3&2)
🎯
Skins
Teams or Individuals · Any Field Size · Handicap Adjusted

Every hole is its own competition. Lowest net score wins the skin. Ties carry over. The app tracks skins won by team across all 18 holes with full handicap adjustment.

  • Individual or team skins format
  • Carry-over on ties
  • Full handicap stroke index adjustment
  • Color-coded scorecard showing skin winners
  • Dollar value per skin configurable
📊
Quota
Any Field Size · Stableford Points

Each player has a quota based on their handicap. Earn Stableford points on every hole and see how far you beat — or missed — your target. Great for mixed handicap groups where match play doesn't work.

  • Quota = 36 minus handicap
  • Points: Bogey 1, Par 2, Birdie 4, Eagle 8
  • Live points vs. quota display
  • Color-coded scorecard by performance
  • Final ranking by score vs. quota
💰
Nassau
1v1 or 4 Ball · Three Bets · Optional Auto Press

The classic three-bet format — front nine, back nine, and 18 holes, all tracked separately. Auto or manual presses on the front and back. The 18-hole bet can only be pressed on the 17th or 18th when you're 2 down.

  • 1v1 or 4 Ball (best ball) format
  • Three live bet statuses: Front · Back · 18
  • Auto or manual presses on the front and back
  • Handicap strokes off entry per player
  • Full settlement summary at the end
9️⃣
9-Point
3 Players · 5-3-1 Scoring · Trash

Nine points distributed on every hole based on net scores. Win the hole outright and take 5. The money evens out over 18 holes — until trash gets involved. Eagles, Sandies, and Greenies flip the leaderboard.

  • 5-3-1 / 4-4-1 / 5-2-2 / 3-3-3 point splits
  • Auto-detected Birdies and Eagles
  • Sandy and Greenie trash buttons
  • Dollar settlement summary
  • 54-point baseline, variance tracked
🐺
Wolf
4 Players · Rotating Wolf · Pick or Lone

Four players rotate as the Wolf each hole. The Wolf tees last and after each tee shot can pick a partner, pass, or go Lone Wolf. Pass on everyone and you're playing alone against the field.

  • Rotating Wolf through hole 16; special rules on 17 & 18
  • Pick partner after their tee shot, or go Lone / Blind Lone
  • 2v2 win: +2 each winner, −2 each loser
  • Lone win: Wolf +3, opponents −1 each (Blind Lone 2×)
  • Low-man stroke off and live $/point settlement
📈
Stats
Single Player · GPS Drive Distance · GIR · Fairways · Putts

Personal stat tracking for one golfer over 18 holes — or pick a stats player during Skins or Quota and save GIR, fairways, putts, and drive distance to My Stats without changing the group game.

  • Drive distance via GPS on par 4 and par 5
  • GIR with miss direction (short, over, left, right)
  • Fairway hit / miss on par 4 and par 5
  • Putts, penalties, and last putt length
  • Career averages in My Stats from saved rounds

New Feature

Dual Scorecard Verification

Your group already keeps two scorecards. Now GameIsOn does it digitally — two scorekeepers track the same foursome and the app compares hole by hole. Any disagreement flags instantly, right on the course, before anyone forgets what happened.

  • Two phones, same tournament code — comparison is automatic
  • Scores, birdies, sandies, and greenies all verified
  • Discrepancy alert fires on both players' screens the moment it's detected
  • No extra buttons — fires silently on every hole advance
Why GameIsOn

Built by Golfers, for Golfers

We got tired of arguing about who owed what and losing track of presses mid-round. So we built the app we always wanted.

🤖

Optional Automatic Presses

Turn on optional automatic presses in Sixes and Nassau — 2 down triggers a new match, 1 down on the last hole triggers another. Or leave them off and press manually.

✈️

Fully Offline

Works perfectly with zero cell service. All your scores save locally on your phone. No account required, no data shared.

15,000+ Courses

Search any course via OpenGolfAPI and import par and stroke index automatically. No more manual entry — just search, tap, and play.

📜

Full Round History

Every round is saved. Go back and review any scorecard, edit scores if needed, and track how your game is trending over time.

💰

Who Owes Who

See the running tab after every hole — match, press, and trash all broken out. No confusion at the 19th hole, just a clean settle-up.

Questions

Good to Know

The stuff people ask before their first round.

How much does it cost?

Download is free — try it with a free trial first. Unlock all game modes for $9.99/year.

Does it work without cell service?

Completely. Every game runs fully offline and saves to your phone. You only need a connection for optional features like importing a new course or live tournament scoring.

Do all four players need the app?

No — one scorekeeper per group is all it takes. For tournaments, a second scorekeeper can run the dual-scorecard verification so two cards are compared automatically.

How are handicaps handled?

You enter strokes directly the way your group already plays, or import course handicaps by stroke index. The app applies net scoring per hole automatically.

Can I review past rounds?

Every round is saved to history. Reopen any scorecard, edit a score if something was off, and see the full settlement again whenever you want.

Is my data private?

Yes. Scores live on your device — no account required and nothing is shared. Tournament scoring only sends the scores you choose to submit.
